The Zaandam Uylbrug
A major project in a very tight space.
In Zaandam, the Dr.. J.M. the Uylbrug widened in Zaandam. Right alongside a floating bicycle bridge of steel bike will be build. A challenge, because the space to work is very tight. The reward is great: with the new bridge the Southern Ring Road will be ready on December 31, 2012. Stopping the traffic jam.
So they chose a separate bicycle bridge besides the car bridge. And not just one, a unique steel bridge that will be welded on a number of steel columns. The bridge will get a remarkable bend. So that it looks like the bridge floats above the water of the Voorzaan.
The challenge for Foundation specialist Fundex was the installing of piles from the water and in the desired brace direction. For this we designed a pontoon configuration which could stand both the type Fundex drilling rig F12SE and the piles "for" - and "behind". To increase the stability of the pontoon on the side, we used a second driver who was linked with an intermediate frame. The space between the two pontoons was determined by the width that was needed to keep the existing pillar foundations intact. During the work the passage of shipping was guaranteed. This was achieved by some of the work during night hours and weekends. Because of the technique of Tubex Poles the work could be done without problems or disturbing the neighbors. (no vibrations and hardly any noise.)
